The Meaning of Outplacement
Briefly, outplacement counselors provide professional career management assistance to employees who have been terminated or whose jobs have been eliminated. This systematic process gives a person the information, conseling and technical assistance they need to face their job loss and find a new position that's personally and financially rewarding.
Initially, outplacement experts are there to provide support and help people put their loss into perspective. Later, they help candidates define what they've accomplished and what they have to offer a new company. All along, they help people strategize their job searches - targeting the right job markets, analyzing the needs of these markets, and designing a campaign that best promotes the person as the solution to these needs.
